Free Sealants
Your tooth enamel is composed of calcium and phosphate and our fissure sealant liquid is composed of the same materials: calcium and phosphate. Fissure sealants heal breeches in your teeth. The crowns of your teeth are made up of four or five lobes of enamel, which mostly fuse together during tooth development. The remaining unfused cracks or fissures in your tooth enamel are loaded with living Streptococcus Mutans bacteria. It might be a surprise to learn that you have millions of living microscopic, single-celled organisms inside your unsealed enamel fissures!
When you consume sugar, you unknowingly feed your enamel bacterial residents their favourite food. Within seconds the 'Stephan's Curve' shows that your Streptococcus Mutans bacteria absorb all sugary substances and they excrete their acid waste right on your tooth enamel, inside your teeth!
At Dental Hygiene Healthcare we want to protect all of your precious tooth enamel, for your lifetime. So with your consent at every visit, we will take a few minutes to evaluate your vulnerable enamel fissures and any enamel defects and then seal all bacteria out of your gaps. We understand that well sealed teeth prevent eighty-five percent of smooth surface cavities. It is not possible to fissure seal between your teeth so please be aware that it is necessary for you to floss daily and limit your consumption of sugary substances, to attain and maintain a cavity free mouth.
You can have your sweets and eat them too, without promoting any tooth decay. A safe sugar substitute called ‘Xylitol’ can help to prevent acid attack for three hours, if it is used five minutes before consuming all sugary substances. Xylitol increases the pH of your mouth to an alkaline measurement of pH 8.4 and so acid attack can not occur in the new Xylitol induced alkaline environment. While Xylitol is harmless for humans, please do not let your pets have Xylitol products.
