Free Exams
There are typically three different exams available at Dental Hygiene Healthcare (D.H.H.): new patient, periodontal and recare. With your consent, a head and neck exam which includes an oral cancer screening will be offered at every visit.
The New Patient exam
After filling in your medical history, your blood pressure will be taken. We would like you to wear the sanitized overglasses to protect your eyes. A thirty second timed rinse of a one percent hydrogen peroxide mouthwash should be done prior to your oral exam. It is necessary to chart your existing oral conditions, gum measurements, fillings, crowns, missing teeth and enamel defects, in order to create proper dental records and to prepare an effective treatment plan, just for you.
The Periodontal Exam
The size and shape of your gums constantly change according to your: immune system, oral hygiene, restorations and systemic health. Using a thin ruler, your gum pocket depths are gently measured at every single visit to Dental Hygiene Healthcare in Fergus, Ontario. In a perfect world, your gum pockets should measure: one, two or three millimeters in depth. Readings of pockets four millimeters or deeper, indicate inflammation and infected gums. Gum recession levels, mobility, attachment, furcations and bleeding sites are also recorded. Please know that healthy gums do not bleed. Your periodontal measurements and the detection of your calculus deposition directly guide the work that will be provided for you at every D.H.H. visit.
The Recare Exam
This exam is more suitable for some adults and children. We try to gather as much information as possible, in the most gentle manner.
Before your return visit, the D.H.H. clinician reviews your previous records, in order to determine the benefits and the goals of your clinical treatments.
